The Beauty of Dorset

When we hear United Kingdom the first thing that comes to our mind is the capital – London!

London is a wonderful city and I am sure that every person that once visited it, keeps it in a special place in his heart but we will talk about it in another post. Besides London, England offers very interesting places that impress with beauty. In this post we will not pay our attention to the big city and the beautiful tall buildings in it. I will take you to a place with picturesque, beautiful nature. There are no skyscrapers there, it is not full of luxurious and stylish stores but this place has fresh air, nice and calm energy and a lot of beauty. Today I will take you to a magical place, located in South West England on the coast of Dorset. Dorset is located on the English Channel Coast – La Manche which separates the Island from Europe.

The shores of Dorset and East Devon are with one of the most picturesque and impressive views with the length of 155 km and famous by the name Jurassic Coast, which is a part of UNESCO World Heritage since 2001. People call it the Dinosaurs coast because remains are found there from around 250 million years and the youngest rocks are about 185 million years old. Jurassic Coast is part of three geological time Periods called the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. The rocks are scattered all around the coast and every part of it has its own story.

The beauty of Jurassic Coast

Durdle Door

Durdle Door is located in the ceremonial county Dorset with the town of county Dorchester and it is a part of Jurassic Coast. It is a stone arch in the water which has the form of a Door.

Durdle Door

Durdle Door is one of Dorset`s most popular and iconic landmarks. The place is really awesome and very beautiful. If you plan to visit it in the summer prepare your towels and sunbathing suits because the coast become a beach full of people in the hot months. I have visited Durdle Door a couple of times and one of them was in the summer so we got the chance to enjoy the beach. Honestly, for me the water was really cold even for a hot English day as it was so I only dipped my feet in the water. But there were people swimming so I guess it depends on the person. Maybe for some of them the water was not that cold. There were people jumping off the cliffs which became an attraction not only for the participants but for the audience on the beach also. The cold water stopped me from swimming but nothing could stop me from enjoying the beautiful view from the shore.

You can get to Durdle Door by car as there is a parking nearby.

The place has its own visitor center where you can find more about the history of this magical place. You can enjoy delicious ice cream and most important you can charge yourself with the positive energy this place has. In my opinion Durdle Door is worth seeing so add it to the list with the places you want to visit. I think that as much as I write and whatever I write will not be enough to describe the beauty that I saw there so I will leave you in the nice company of the many photos I took and I hope that I will inspire you to go see this beauty with your own eyes.

If you want to visit some towns as well you can go to:

Weymouth

Weymouth is close to Durdle Door. The town is really nice, it brings history and it is very calming. It is full of tourists especially in the summer. There you can find many attractions for kids and adults or you can relax on the beach with your favorite book. The tourism plays main part in its economy, but despite that the town is not unpleasantly overcrowded but really nice and pleasant.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth is further away. It is 1 hour away from Durdle Door but it definitely deserves to be seen. This town has a really different vision from the other typical English places and it quickly became my favorite. There you feel like you are not in England but somewhere in the USA. With the Giant Ferry Wheel and the attractions of the pier really reminds me a little bit of Coney Island in New York.

A place that will be interesting not only for you but for your kids as well is the Bournemouth Oceanarium. It is located on the seafront adjacent to Bournemouth pier. The place is very exciting. Inside you can see different aquatic animals, penguins, fish, birds and you can walk through a water tunnel, where you can enjoy the sharks that are swimming around you. You can rest and drink coffee at the cafe and you can buy something from the gift shop as well.

In Dorset you can see very exciting and wonderful things. This tourist destination should not be underestimated and it deserves to be seen. If you plan a vacation and you want to combine experience in the nature and in town – just visit Dorset. You can choose the town by yourself or you can trust me and go to the places I wrote in this article about – both ways I do not think you will be disappointed, because Dorset offers a lot of beauty – as long as you want to see it.
